Bishop of El Salvador
Bishop Reinaldo Sorto Martínez, Bishop of El Salvador, was born on March 10, 1961, at Zacatecoluca, in the department of La Paz. He made his philosophical and theological studies at the San José de la Montaña seminary in San Salvador from 1987 to 1993, and he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Salvador on May 19, 1994. From 2001 to 2003 he took a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the University of Navarre. He was vicar of San José parish at Quezaltepeque from 1994 to 1996 and a military chaplain in 1995, parish priest of San José las Flores at Tonacatepeque from 1996 to 2000, and chaplain and professor of ethics at the National Academy of Public Security from 1997 to 2000. He was parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes at Colón, in La Libertad, from 2003 to 2016, and from 2004 a professor of dogmatic theology at the San José de la Montaña seminary. He was vicar forane of the Monseñor Rafael Valladares vicariate in La Libertad from 2005 to 2008, vice-rector and prefect of studies of the San José de la Montaña seminary from 2010 to 2015, parish priest of San José de la Montaña in San Salvador and episcopal vicar for pastoral affairs from 2016 to 2019, and from 2019 parish priest of the Inmaculada Concepción parish at Santa Tecla. From November 2022 he was vicar general of the Archdiocese of San Salvador. On June 13, 2024, he was appointed Bishop of El Salvador. He received episcopal ordination on July 20, 2024, at San Salvador, with Luigi Roberto Cona as principal consecrator and José Luis Escobar Alas and Gregorio Rosa Chávez as co-consecrators, and he was installed on July 21, 2024.
