Archbishop of Morelia
Archbishop-elect José Armando Álvarez Cano was born in Jiquilpan, diocese of Zamora, on 30 January 1960. He was ordained a priest on 8 February 1986 and incardinated in the diocese of Zamora. He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Universidad Pontificia de México. After serving as vicar in various parishes of the diocese, he carried out a missionary experience as fidei donum, for a two-year period, in the diocese of Tacna y Moquegua, in Peru. Upon returning to Mexico, he served as parish priest and president of the diocesan Commission for the Formation of the Clergy of his diocese. On 13 November 2011 was appointed bishop of the Territorial Prelature of Huautla and, on 20 January 2012, he received episcopal ordination. On 11 May 2019 he was transferred to the diocese of Tampico. On 3 November 2011 he was appointed bishop of the Territorial Prelature of Huautla and on 20 January 2012 he received episcopal ordination. On 11 May 2019 he was transferred to the diocese of Tampico.
