Bishop Gualtiero Sigismondi

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Gualtiero Sigismondi—formerly Bishop of Foligno and currently General Ecclesiastical Assistant of Italian Catholic Action—as Bishop of the Diocese of Orvieto-Todi. Msgr. Sigismondi was born on February 25, 1961, in Ospedalicchio di Bastia Umbra (Perugia). He pursued his studies at the Regional Seminary of Assisi and, as a student at the Pontifical Lombard Seminary, attended the Gregorian University, where he earned a degree in Theology. Ordained a priest on June 29, 1986, in Perugia, he has served as a parish priest, Vice-Rector and Spiritual Director of the Regional Seminary, Director of the ISSR, and Regional Assistant for Catholic Action. He is a lecturer in Dogmatic Theology at the ITA and served as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Perugia from 2005 to 2008. Elected Bishop of Foligno on July 3, 2008, he was consecrated on September 12 of that same year. He currently also serves as the General Ecclesiastical Assistant of Italian Catholic Action.
