Archbishop of Gitega
Bonaventure Nahimana was born on June 3, 1959, in Gisebuzi, in the parish of Giheta, Archdiocese of Gitega. After attending primary school in Giheta, he entered the diocesan minor seminary of Mugera, transferring a year later to a regular school in Gitega. Subsequently, he pursued his studies at the *Séminaire Moyen* in Burasira. In 1979, he entered the interdiocesan major seminary of Burasira for studies in philosophy and theology, completing them in 1986 with a Baccalaureate in Theology. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Gitega on August 10, 1986. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1986: Prefect of Studies at the diocesan minor seminary of Mugera; 1986–1998: Diocesan promoter of vocations; 1987: Parochial vicar in Mugera; 1988–1993: Teacher at the diocesan minor seminary of Mugera; 1993–1995: Diocesan head of Catholic education; 1995–1998: Rector of the diocesan minor seminary of Mugera; 1998–2001: Studies at the *Institut en Sciences Pédagogiques et Religieuses* in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, concluding with a Licentiate in Pedagogical Sciences; 2001–2002: Spiritual director at the interdiocesan major seminary of Burasira. Since 2002, he has served as Rector of the interdiocesan major seminary of Burasira and Secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Vocations and Seminaries.
