Bishop Miguel Ángel Morán Aquino

Miguel Ángel Morán Aquino was born on May 25, 1955, in Esquipulas, in the Diocese of Santa Ana. In 1967, he entered the Minor Seminary of the Diocese of Santa Ana. He pursued his philosophical studies in Santa Ana and his theological studies at the San José de la Montaña Major Seminary. He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1981, and incardinated into the Diocese of Santa Ana. In Rome, he obtained a Licentiate in Theology from the Pontifical Antonianum University. As a priest, he held the following positions: Pastor of Santa Bárbara Parish, Santa Ana (1986–1988); Pastor of San Andrés Parish in Apaneca and Prefect of Studies at the San José de la Montaña Major Seminary (1988–1990); Pastor of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Ana (1990, 6 months); and Pastor of San Miguelito Parish, Santa Ana (1990–1996). On July 19, 2000, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of San Miguel and was consecrated on September 2 of that year. He currently serves as the Episcopal Conference Delegate to CELAM and is in charge of the Clergy Social Welfare Institute.
