Archbishop Riccardo Lamba

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Udine presented by H.E. Msgr. Andrea Bruno Mazzocato and has appointed H.E. Msgr. Riccardo Lamba—previously Titular Bishop of Medeli and Auxiliary Bishop of Rome—as Metropolitan Archbishop of the same Archdiocese. H.E. Msgr. Riccardo Lamba, Archbishop of Udine, was born in Caracas (Venezuela) on November 30, 1956. After obtaining a degree in Medicine, he entered the seminary and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rome on May 6, 1989. He earned a Licentiate in Psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has held the following positions: Assistant at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary (1989–1991); Assistant at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (1991–2000); Parish Priest of Sant’Anselmo alla Cecchignola (2000–2002); Parish Priest of Gesù Divino Lavoratore (2002–2018); and Parish Priest of San Ponziano in Rome (2018–2022). On May 27, 2022, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Medeli and Auxiliary Bishop of Rome, receiving episcopal consecration on June 29, 2022. He is currently in charge of the Eastern Sector of Rome and is responsible for the pastoral area of a "hospitable and outgoing Church" as well as the Service for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons.
