Bishop of Gizo
Bishop Peter Houhou, Bishop of Gizo, was born on October 10, 1966, in Marau, on the island of Guadalcanal, in the Archdiocese of Honiara. Having entered the seminary, he completed his studies in philosophy and theology at Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Bomana, Papua New Guinea. He was ordained a priest for Honiara on July 3, 1999. After ordination he served as parochial vicar of Ruavatu (1999-2000); parish priest of Makina at Marau (2000-2006); and parish priest of Visale (2006-2015). From 2011 he served as vicar general of the Archdiocese of Honiara while retaining his parish commitments, and from 2015 as parish priest and administrator of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross as well as vicar general. On July 3, 2018, he was appointed Bishop of Auki. He received episcopal ordination on October 14, 2018, at Auki, with Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal as principal consecrator and Christopher Michael Cardone and Douglas William Young as co-consecrators. On June 16, 2023, he was appointed Bishop of Gizo, and he was installed on August 27, 2023.
