Archbishop of Halifax-Yarmouth
Brian Joseph Dunn was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on January 8, 1955. He entered St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 and a Master of Divinity degree in 1979 from the University of Western Ontario. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Grand Falls on August 28, 1980. In 1991, he earned a Doctorate in Canon Law from Saint Paul University in Ottawa, and in 2006, a Master’s degree in Liturgy from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Following his priestly ordination, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of Grand Falls (1980–1985); Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese (1980–1996); Pastor of St. Gabriel’s Parish in St. Brendan’s (1985–1988); Pastor of the Cathedral of Grand Falls (1991–1996); Member of the College of Consultors (1991–2002); Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Harbour Breton (1996–1999); Pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Holyrood and Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Harbour Main (1999–2002); Chancellor of the Diocese (1996–2008); and Adjunct Judicial Vicar (2002–2008). Additionally, from 2002 to 2008, he taught Canon Law at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, where he also served as Dean of Studies (2005–2008). On July 16, 2008, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Munaziana and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie. He received episcopal ordination on October 9, 2008.
