Document summary

Pope Benedict XVI invites the young people preparing for the 22nd World Youth Day to receive Jesus’ commandment to love one another as he has loved them. Human beings discover their identity and the meaning of life through an encounter with God’s personal love, revealed most fully in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. The penitential celebration directs the youth to the Sacrament of Confession, where divine mercy brings forgiveness and the peace of the Holy Spirit.
