Bishop of Portugal
Sérgio Manuel Ribeiro Dinis was born on May 8, 1970, in Ermelo, in the municipality of Mondim de Basto and the Diocese of Vila Real. After attending the Salesian College in Poiares, he studied at the Seminary of Vila Real and the Major Seminary of Porto. He obtained a Licentiate degree in Theology from the Faculty of Theology at the Catholic University of Portugal (Porto Regional Center) and a Licentiate degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He was ordained a priest on July 17, 1994, and incardinated into the Diocese of Vila Real. He began his pastoral ministry as secretary to the then-Bishop of Vila Real, Joaquim Gonçalves (1993–1996). From 1996, he served as parish priest of Santa Maria Maior in Murça. From 1998 to 2024, he was also the parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Anunciação in Noura. Subsequently, he was appointed parish priest of Santa Maria Madalena in Candedo. He also served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Purificação in Fiolhoso (1996–1998) and of São Sebastião in Pópulo (1996–2014).
