Bishop of São José dos Campos
José Valmor César Teixeira, S.D.B., was born on March 1, 1953, in Rio do Sul, in the state of Santa Catarina. He completed his novitiate with the Salesians in Taquaré during 1970–1971 and made his perpetual vows in 1977. He studied philosophy at the Salesian Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters in Lorena and São Paulo. He completed his theological studies at the Claretian Fathers' *Studium* in Curitiba. Additionally, he obtained a Licentiate in Church History from the Gregorian University in Rome, a Baccalaureate in Social Studies from the Salesian Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters in Lorena, and a Licentiate in Education and the Preventive System from the Catholic University of Porto Alegre. He was ordained a priest on December 9, 1979, and subsequently held the following positions: formator in the São Pio X Province; professor at the *Studium Theologicum* in Curitiba (1997–2000); director of the Salesian Institute in Curitiba (1989–1990 and 1997–2002); provincial councilor in Porto Alegre (1985–1986, 1987–1990, and 1997–2002); provincial vicar in Porto Alegre (1990–1996); national coordinator of the provincial youth ministry team (1995–1998); provincial of the Porto Alegre Province (2002–2008); and vice-president of CISBRASIL (Conference of Salesian Provinces of Don Bosco in Brazil). On January 28, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Bom Jesus da Lapa, receiving episcopal ordination on March 29 of that same year.
