Bishop of Savona-Noli
Msgr. Calogero Marino as bishop of Savona-Noli (area 394, population 155,000, Catholics 152,000, priest 97, permanent deacons 9, religious 389), Italy. The bishop-elect was born in 1955 in Brescia, Italy and was ordained a priest in 1982. He holds a degree in law from the University of Genoa, and a degree in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University, and during the course of his ministry has served as special secretary to Bishop Daniele Ferrari and Bishop Alberto M. Careggio; spiritual assistant of the “Missionaries of the Regality of Our Lord Jesus Christ” and rector of the diocesan seminary. He was named Chaplain of His Holiness in 1995. He is currently pastor of the Santa Maria Madre della Chiesa parish in Lavagna, diocesan assistant of Catholic Action, diocesan judicial vicar, judicial vicar at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Region of Liguria, and vicar general of the diocese of Chiavari. He succeeds Bishop Vittorio Lupi, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese was accepted by the Holy Father.
