Bishop of Atlacomulco
Bishop Adolfo Miguel Castaño Fonseca was born on 27 September 1962 in San Mateo Mozoquilpan, in the diocese of Toluca. After studying in the seminary of Toluca, he was awarded a licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Universidad Pontificia de México and a doctorate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1987. He has held the following offices: professor at the Universidad Pontificia de México, prefect of studies in the seminary of Toluca. He was appointed titular bishop of Vadesi and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of México on 22 June 2010, receiving episcopal consecration the following 30 July. On 28 Setember 2019 he was appointed first bishop of the diocese of Azcapotzalco, at the moment of the division of the metropolitan archdiocese of México. Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Episcopal Commission of Prophetic Pastoral Care. The Holy Father has appointed as first bishop of Iztapalapa, Mexico, Bishop Jesús Antonio Lerma Nolasco, currently titular of Aulona and auxiliary of the archdiocese of México.
