Bishop of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño
Santos Montoya was born on February 22, 1966, in La Solana (Ciudad Real). He earned a degree in Chemical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1990. He was ordained a priest on June 18, 2000, in Madrid, upon completing his pastoral year at the parish of Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Campamento. In 2012, he obtained a licentiate degree in Dogmatic Theology from the San Dámaso Ecclesiastical University. In 2020, he earned a master's degree in Vocational Discernment and Spiritual Accompaniment from Comillas Pontifical University. He served as diocesan vice-chaplain for General Catholic Action in Madrid (2000–2001) and as a formator at the *La Inmaculada y San Dámaso* Archbishop's School and Minor Seminary in Madrid (2000–2001); he subsequently became the deputy director of the same institution (2001–2002) and later its director (2002–2012). Additionally, he was assigned to the *Purísimo Corazón de María* parish (2006–2008). From 2012 until his appointment as bishop, he served as parish priest of *Beata María Ana de Jesús* and principal of the school of the same name; from 2015, he also served as archpriest of Delicias-Legazpi. In 2015, he joined the Presbyteral Council of Madrid, and in 2017, the College of Consultors. His appointment as auxiliary bishop of Madrid was announced on December 29, 2017, with his assignment to the titular see of Orta (*Horta*, *Hortensis*)—a see in the proconsular province that had Cartagena as its metropolitan see. He received episcopal ordination on February 17, 2018. Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Santos Montoya Torres as Bishop of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño on January 12, 2022. He took possession of the diocese on March 5, 2022.
