Archbishop of Brazil
Marcony Vinícius Ferreira was born on March 3, 1964, in Brasília, within the archdiocese of the same name. After attending middle school at the "Bom Jesus" Minor Seminary, he pursued his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the "Nossa Senhora de Fátima" Major Seminary, both located in Brasília. He holds a specialization in Liturgical Theology, obtained first at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm (1993–1996) and subsequently at the Institute of Liturgical Theology of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (2011–2012). He was ordained a priest on December 3, 1988. During his priestly ministry, he held the following positions: Parish Priest of Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima (1989–1993); Parish Priest of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasília (1996–2010); Archdiocesan Pastoral Coordinator (1996–2004); Member of the Presbyteral Council (1996–2010); Member of the College of Consultors (1996–2010); Episcopal Vicar for the Central Vicariate (1996–2007); Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Brasília (2008–2011); Head of the archdiocese’s Sunday liturgical bulletin, *Povo de Deus* (1989–2003 and 2006–2011); and Secretary General and Coordinator of the Liturgy Team for the 16th National Eucharistic Congress (2010). Between 1996 and 2011, he also held other roles: Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission; Head of liturgical and doctrinal formation for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion; Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Commission for Corpus Christi; Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Commission for the Feast of Our Lady of Aparecida; and Coordinator of the Eucharistic Adoration Commission. Professor at the archdiocese’s two major seminaries and at the Advanced Theology Course for the Laity. He currently serves as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Brasília.
