Bishop of Zipaquirá
Monsignor Héctor Cubillos Peña was born in Bogotá on November 17, 1949. He completed his primary and secondary education at the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. He pursued studies in philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of the same Archdiocese (1968–1974). He obtained a Licentiate degree in Fundamental Dogmatic Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome (1978–1980) and subsequently completed a course for seminary formators in Santiago, Chile. He was ordained a priest on November 29, 1974, by Cardinal Aníbal Muñoz Duque, Archbishop of Bogotá, and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Bogotá. He served as Parochial Vicar at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Cáqueza (1974–1976) and at the Good Shepherd (Buen Pastor) Parish in Bogotá (1976–1977); Professor of Theology and member of the formation team at the Major Seminary of Bogotá (1980–1996); Director of the Cardinal Aníbal Muñoz Duque Center for Pastoral Studies (CEPCAM) (1996–1997); Director of the Department of Doctrine at the Permanent Secretariat of the Episcopate (1996–1997); and Episcopal Vicar for the Immaculate Conception Pastoral Zone (2001–2002). On February 15, 2002, His Holiness John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Fessei and Auxiliary Bishop of Bucaramanga. He received episcopal consecration on March 23, 2002, from Monsignor Víctor Manuel López Forero, Archbishop of Bucaramanga. On June 30, 2004, His Holiness John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Zipaquirá. He took canonical possession of the assigned see on August 14 of that same year.
