Archbishop of Acapulco
González González was born on October 31, 1950, in Abasolo, in the Diocese of Irapuato. He completed his ecclesiastical studies at the Major Seminary of Morelia. He subsequently attended a psychology course at a school for seminary formators in Toluca—affiliated with the Faculty of Psychology at the Gregorian University—where he obtained a diploma in the anthropology of vocation. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Morelia on November 23, 1975. As a priest, he held various roles in priestly formation, serving as a professor of philosophy, theology, psychology, and patrology. He also served as Prefect of Discipline, Prefect of Studies, and later as Vice-Rector of the Major Seminary of Morelia. From 1995 to 1999, he served as Vicar General of the same archdiocese. On March 18, 1999, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Voncaria and Auxiliary Bishop of Morelia, receiving episcopal ordination on May 19 of that year. On June 9, 2005, he was transferred to the Diocese of Tapachula. The prelate served two three-year terms as President of the Commission for Dialogue and Ecumenism of the Mexican Episcopal Conference.
