Bishop of Quilmes
Bishop Carlos José Tissera, Bishop of Quilmes, was born on September 10, 1951, in Río Cuarto, in the Diocese of Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto. He studied philosophy at the major seminary of Córdoba and theology at the Catholic University of Argentina in Buenos Aires. He was ordained a priest for Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto on April 7, 1978. He served the diocese of Río Cuarto as assistant parish priest at the shrine of the Señor de la Buena Muerte at Reducción (1978-1981); parish priest at Adelia María (1981-1983); superior and spiritual director of the seminary (1983-1992); and parish priest of the cathedral (1992-2004). He was also a member of the presbyteral council and of the college of consultors and coordinator of the group responsible for the ongoing formation of priests. On November 16, 2004, he was appointed Bishop of San Francisco. He received episcopal ordination on February 6, 2005, at Río Cuarto, with Ramón Artemio Staffolani as principal consecrator and Moisés Julio Blanchoud and Mario Aurelio Poli as co-consecrators, and he was installed on February 27, 2005. On October 12, 2011, he was appointed Bishop of Quilmes, and he was installed on December 17, 2011. Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference he has served as a member of the commission for ministries.
