Bishop Joselito Carreño Quiñonez

Joselito Carreño Quiñonez is Vicar Apostolic of Inírida, Colombia. Monsignor Joselito Carreño Quiñones, M.X.Y., was born in Cepitá, Santander, Diocese of Málaga - Soatá, on 16 April 1966. After basic studies at Colegio San Juan de Girón in Santander, he entered the Conciliar Seminary of Bucaramanga, where he studied philosophy (1986 - 1988). On 1 February 1990 he joined the major seminary of the Yarumal Mission Institute, where he began theological studies; after the novitiate, in 1992, he continued formation at Hekima College in Nairobi, Kenya, where he obtained a theology degree in 1996. He obtained a licentiate in Spiritual Theology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi (2011 - 2012). He made first religious profession on 3 December 1991 and was ordained priest on 9 November 1996 in Bucaramanga. He was regional coordinator of the Yarumal Institute for Foreign Missions in Kenya (2003 - 2005), rector of the seminary of the Yarumal Institute for Foreign Missions in Nairobi (2006 - 2012), and vicar general of the Yarumal Institute for Foreign Missions (2012 to the time of the source). On 3 December 2013 His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him Vicar Apostolic of Inírida. On 15 February 2014 he received episcopal ordination, together with Bishop Carlos Alberto Correa, Apostolic Vicar of Guapi, and Bishop Medardo de Jesús Henao del Río, Apostolic Vicar of Mitú, in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Medellín. At the ordination ceremony the principal ordaining bishop was Archbishop Ettore Balestrero, Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, and the first concelebrating bishops were Bishop Fidel León Cadavid Marín, Bishop of Sonsón-Rionegro, and Antonio Bayter Abud, Bishop Emeritus of Inírida. He took possession of the assigned vicariate on 21 March 2014.
