Bishop of Posadas
He is the fourth and current Bishop of Posadas. Born on January 20, 1953, in Olivos, Buenos Aires, he is the son of Juan Felipe Martínez and Amalia Gaiser. He studied law at the University of Buenos Aires. At the age of 22, he entered the San Agustín Seminary in San Isidro. He holds a Licentiate degree in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 1979. His first pastoral assignment was as a parochial vicar at the San Isidro Cathedral; he also served as a formator, spiritual director, and vice-rector of the seminary. In 1985, together with other priests, he founded the La Encarnación Interdiocesan Seminary in Resistencia, Chaco, where he served as rector. In the Archdiocese of Resistencia, he served as vicar of the Charadai Barberán parish, advisor to the Diocesan Youth Ministry, and a member of the Archdiocesan Council of Priests. On February 12, 1994, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Reconquista. His episcopal consecration took place on March 19, 1994, at the Cathedral of Reconquista. On November 25, 2000, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Posadas, Misiones. He took possession of his see on March 10, 2001.
