Bishop of El Tigre
José Manuel Romero Barrios was born in Pariaguán, in the Diocese of Barcelona, on April 9, 1955. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy at the Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Caracas and in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Barcelona on December 1, 1979. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of "San Juan Bautista" in Aragua de Barcelona; Vice-Rector and Prefect of Discipline at the Minor Seminary of Barcelona; Rector of the Minor Seminary; Parish Priest of "Nuestra Señora del Carmen" in Barcelona; Parish Priest of the Barcelona Cathedral; Deputy Director of the "Santa Rosa de Lima" University Institute/Interdiocesan Seminary in Caracas; Rector of the Theology Department at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Caracas; Vice-Rector of the "Santa Rosa de Lima" University in Caracas; Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care; and Parish Priest of "El Espíritu Santo" in Barcelona. Since 2007, he has served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Barcelona. Since 1991, he has also served as a military chaplain in Barcelona. H.E. Msgr. José Manuel Romero Barrios. Bishop of El Tigre.
