Bishop of São José dos Pinhais
Dom Celso Antônio Marchiori, son of João Marchiori and Maria Rosy Bullow Marchiori, was born on August 14, 1958, in Campo Largo, Paraná. From 1966 to 1970, he attended primary school at the Dr. Felinto Teixeira School in the Itaqui neighborhood of Campo Largo. In 1972, he began working at the Steatita tableware factory (now Schmidt Porcelain), remaining there until February 1976. That same year, he entered the São José Minor Seminary, where he completed his middle and high school education. In 1981, while residing at the Queen of the Apostles Provincial Minor Seminary in Curitiba, he studied philosophy at PUC-PR, followed immediately by theology studies at the *Studium Theologicum*. Ordained a priest on March 6, 1988, he was appointed Spiritual Director of the São José Seminary; the following year, he assumed the role of Rector, a position he held until 2005. From 1991 to 1994, he attended the School for Formators, run by the Transceder Association. In 1991, he was appointed parish administrator of the Sanctuary of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, becoming an associate pastor there in 1992. From 1996 to 2005, he served as Rector of the Santíssimo Sacramento Seminary and as pastor of the Santíssimo Sacramento Parish. Career and Experience – During his time as a formator, he undertook various roles, ministries, and duties within the Archdiocese of Curitiba. He was appointed Episcopal Vicar and served on the College of Consultors, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, the Council for Holy Orders and Ministries, the Presbyteral Pastoral Council, and the Supervisory Board. Additionally, he served as coordinator of ongoing formation for newly ordained priests, advisor to the Tithing Pastoral Ministry, spiritual counselor for the Teams of Our Lady, ecclesiastical assistant for the *Capelinhas* (Small Shrines) Movement, president of ARSEM (Assembly of Rectors and Formators of Curitiba Seminaries), administrator of the São José Priestly Vocations Work, and liaison for the Archdiocesan Commission for Ecclesial Movements and New Forms of Christian Life. On July 8, 2009, he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Apucarana; his episcopal ordination took place on August 28, and he was installed in Apucarana on October 2, 2009. His episcopal motto is “In Cruce Domine” (In the Cross of the Lord).
