Archbishop of Khartoum
Archbishop Michael Didi Adgum Mangoria, Archbishop of Khartoum, Sudan, was born on 1 January 1959 in Engoth, Diocese of El Obeid, in the Nuba Mountains region, to a family of traditional religion. He converted at the age of 16, receiving baptism in Khartoum. After primary school at Saint Joseph Technical School in Khartoum, and secondary studies at Comboni College in Khartoum and at Saint Mary's National Seminary in Nazaret-Wau, he entered the Minor Seminary of Khartoum. He then continued studies at Saint Paul's National Seminary in Busare-Wau (1985-1987), in Munuki-Juba (1987-1989), and in Khartoum (1989-1992). He was ordained in Khartoum on 10 May 1992 and incardinated in the same archdiocese. After priestly ordination, he exercised pastoral ministry in Saint Bakita Parish in Jabarona, working with refugees (1992-1997). Later sent to Rome, he earned a degree in Canon Law in 2001 at the Pontifical Urban University. On returning from studies, he was appointed a member of the presbyteral council and of the college of consultors (2001-2008), and then in 2004 professor of Canon Law and member of the Sudan Inter-religious Council. From 2008 to 2010 he was rector of Saint Paul's Major Seminary. On 29 May 2010 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Coadjutor Bishop of El Obeid, later becoming its ordinary on 28 October 2013.
