Bishop of Vigevano
Bishop Maurizio Gervasoni, Bishop of Vigevano, was born on December 20, 1953, in Sarnico, in the province of Bergamo and the Diocese of Bergamo. In 1964 he entered the San Gregorio Barbarigo seminary of Clusone, where he attended middle school, and in 1967 moved to the John XXIII seminary of Bergamo, where he completed the lyceum and theology. He was ordained a priest for Bergamo on June 11, 1977, in Bergamo. He continued his studies at the Pontifical Lombard Seminary in Rome, attending the Pontifical Gregorian University and obtaining a doctorate in theology in 1982. He then served as vice-director of the lyceum course of the John XXIII seminary (1981-1986) and of its theology course (1986-1992); lecturer in theological anthropology at the seminary of Bergamo (1982-2012); lecturer in the spirituality of the diocesan presbyterate (1990-2000); director of the office for the pastoral care of culture (1991-2012); and director of the office for social, labour and economic ministry (1992-2001). He was director of the office for associations, movements and groups and episcopal delegate for the formation and education of the People of God (1992-2012); president of the diocesan Caritas (1993-2012); episcopal delegate for the proclamation of the Word and the liturgy (1997-2012); and director of both the catechetical office and the liturgical office (1997-2012). He lectured in the anthropology of religions (2004-2010) and from 2010 in the history of religions at the University of Bergamo. In September 2012 he was appointed provost of the parish of Santa Lucia in Bergamo and episcopal vicar for that city. In 1999 he was named a prelate of honour of His Holiness. On July 20, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Vigevano. He received episcopal ordination on September 28, 2013, at Bergamo, with Dionigi Tettamanzi as principal consecrator and Francesco Beschi and Lino Bortolo Belotti as co-consecrators. He was installed as Bishop of Vigevano on October 5, 2013.
