Bishop of Guarulhos
Bishop Edmilson Amador Caetano, O. Cist., Bishop of Guarulhos, was born in the city of São Paulo, in the archdiocese of the same name, on 20 April 1960. He studied philosophy at São Bento Monastery in São Paulo and theology first at the Pio XI Theological Institute in São Paulo and then at São Bento Monastery in Rio de Janeiro. He obtained a licentiate in liturgy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome. A member of the Congregation of Saint Bernard of the Cistercian Order, he made perpetual profession on 25 March 1982. He was ordained priest on 7 December 1985 and carried out the following activities: parish vicar in São Roque in 1985-1989; chaplain of São Vicente Hospital in São Paulo in 1986-1992; master of professed members of the Cistercian monastery in the Diocese of São João da Boa Vista in 1989-1991; pastor of Cristo Redentor parish in 1990-1992; vice prior of the monastery and master of novices in 1990-1993; chaplain of Educandato São José and director of the Coração de Maria Faculty of Philosophy and Theology in 1993-1997; member of the presbyteral council of the Diocese of São João da Boa Vista in 1994 and 2003-2007; director of the Secular Cistercian Oblates in 1995-1996; prior of the monastery in 1995-1997; pastor of São Roque parish in 1997-2001; and abbot of the Cistercian monastery in 2003-2008. On 9 January 2008 he was appointed Bishop of Barretos, and on the following 28 March he received episcopal ordination.
