Bishop of San Carlos
Bishop Gerardo Alimane Alminaza, Bishop of San Carlos, was born on August 14, 1959, in San Jose, Sipalay, Negros Occidental, in the Diocese of Bacolod. He studied philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary and theology at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, obtaining a licentiate in theology. After studies at Fordham University in New York, he obtained a doctorate in educational management from the University of Negros Occidental in Bacolod City. He was ordained a priest for Bacolod on April 29, 1986. After some years as assistant parish priest at St. Francis Xavier parish in Kabankalan, he was appointed dean of studies, then spiritual director and finally rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Bacolod City, and he also held several offices in the diocesan curia of Bacolod. On May 29, 2008, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Maximiana in Byzacena and Auxiliary Bishop of Jaro. He received episcopal ordination on August 4, 2008, at Bacolod, with Edward Joseph Adams as principal consecrator and Angel Nacorda Lagdameo and Vicente Macanan Navarra as co-consecrators, and he was installed as Auxiliary Bishop of Jaro on August 5, 2008. On September 14, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of San Carlos, and he was installed on November 18, 2013.
