Bishop of Abancay
Gilberto Gómez González was born in Albeos, in the Diocese of Tui-Vigo, Spain, on February 12, 1952. After completing his secondary, philosophical, and theological studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Tui-Vigo, he was ordained a priest on September 14, 1975. He served as Vice-Rector of the Minor Seminary of Tui-Vigo from 1975 to 1985. Having joined the "Obra de Cooperación Sacerdotal Hispanoamericana" (Hispanic-American Priestly Cooperation Work), he was assigned to the Diocese of Abancay, serving first as Rector of the diocesan Minor Seminary (1986–1992) and parish priest of Tamburco, then as Vice-Rector (1992–1997), and finally as Rector of the Major Seminary of Abancay; concurrently, he served as Chaplain to the Discalced Carmelite Sisters of Abancay and as a member of the diocesan Presbyteral Council. He contributed to the publication of the Catechism of Christian Doctrine and wrote articles of a religious and spiritual nature for the Abancay diocesan bulletin.
