Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Maldonado
David Martínez De Aguirre Guinea, O.P., was born on January 10, 1970, in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain). After completing his primary and secondary education at the Marianist school Santa María Ikastetxea in Vitoria-Gasteiz, he attended the Higher Institute of Philosophy in Valladolid (1993–1995) and subsequently the Faculty of Theology of San Esteban in Salamanca (1995–1998). He later obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the University of Deusto in Bilbao and attended a course at the Dominican *École Biblique et Archéologique Française* in Jerusalem (1998–2000). He made his perpetual profession on September 18, 1993, and was ordained a priest on December 11, 1999. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1999–2000: ministry at the Parish of the Incarnation in Bilbao; 2000–2001: ministry at San José de Koribeni (Cusco) in the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado, and lecturer in Biblical Theology at the Vicariate’s seminary; 2001–2014: parish priest of Inmaculada Concepción de Kirigueti and head of the Kirigueti mission; 2004–2014: councilor of the Santa Rosa de Lima Regional Vicariate in Peru; since 2010: head of the San Pedro Mártir de Timpía mission and member of the board of the José Pio Aza Cultural Center in Lima.
