Bishop of Uvira
Sébastien Muyengo Mulombe was born on May 8, 1958, in Bukavu. After attending primary school in Bukavu and later in Kinshasa, he entered the St. André Kaggwa Major Seminary in Kinshasa for philosophy studies (1979–1982) and subsequently the John Paul I University Seminary in Kinshasa for theology studies (1982–1987), where he also obtained a Licentiate degree. He was ordained a priest on August 1, 1986, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Kinshasa. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1986–1987: Sunday assistant priest at the Holy Spirit (Santo Spirito) parish in Livulu, Kinshasa; 1987–1991: Bursar and professor at the John XXIII Major Seminary of Theology; 1988–1991: Rector of the Saint John Vianney Propaedeutic Seminary, president of the diocesan commission for vocations, and member of the College of Consultors; 1991–1995: Advanced studies for a Doctorate in Moral Theology at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse, France; 1997–2000: Director of the LINDONGE Pastoral Center and part-time professor at the Catholic Faculties of Kinshasa; 1999–2008: Rector of the John XXIII Major Seminary of Theology and 2nd Vice-President of the National Bioethics Committee of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; 2004–2007: Parish priest of Saint Leopold; since 2007: Full-time professor at the Faculty of Theology in Kinshasa. He is currently pursuing a course of study at the University of Louvain (Belgium).
