Bishop of Foz do Iguaçu
Sérgio de Deus Borges is Bishop of Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil. He was born on 4 April 1966 in Alfredo Wagner, in the Diocese of Rio do Sul, State of Santa Catarina. He completed philosophy studies at the I.P.A.S. Institute of Philosophy in Ponta Grossa (1985-1987) and theology studies at the Paulo VI Institute of Theology in Londrina (1989-1993). He then obtained a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1997-2000) and a licentiate in theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Curitiba. On 6 February 1993 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the Diocese of Cornélio Procópio, where he held the offices of parish priest, adviser for youth, family, and prison pastoral ministry, spiritual director of the Serra Clube movement, professor at Menino Deus Seminary (1993-1994), and professor and rector of São José Major Seminary in Jataizinho (1995-2011). Within the ecclesiastical province, from 2007 he served as teacher and study director of the Institute of Theology of Londrina and president of the Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Londrina. From 2011 he was parish priest of Imaculada Conceição parish in Jataizinho.
