Bishop of Gubbio
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Città di Castello presented by H.E. Msgr. Domenico Cancian, F.A.M., and has appointed H.E. Msgr. Luciano Paolucci Bedini, Bishop of Gubbio, as Bishop of Città di Castello, uniting the two Sees *in persona Episcopi*. Msgr. Luciano Paolucci Bedini was born on August 30, 1968, in Jesi (in the diocese and province of the same name, in Ancona). He entered the "Pio XI" Pontifical Regional Seminary of the Marche region in Fano (PU) and obtained a Baccalaureate in Theology from the Theological Institute of the Marche. He was ordained a priest on September 30, 1995, in Osimo. From 1996 to 1999, he attended the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Theology. He held the following pastoral roles: Parochial Vicar of San Paolo Apostolo in Ancona (1995–2004); Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Office (1999–2011); Lecturer in Catechetics and Pastoral Theology at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Ancona (2001–2011); Director of the Regional Catechetical Office (2003–2010); Vice-Rector (from 2004) and subsequently Rector (from 2010) of the "Pio XI" Pontifical Regional Seminary in Ancona; Regional Ecclesiastical Assistant for AGESCI (2005–2010); and Member of the Regional Presbyteral Commission (from 2010). Elected Bishop of Gubbio on September 29, 2017, he received episcopal consecration on December 3 of that same year. Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Commission for Ecumenism and Dialogue.
