Archbishop of Rosario
Archbishop Eduardo Eliseo Martín, Archbishop of Rosario, was born on December 26, 1953, in Venado Tuerto, in the Diocese of Venado Tuerto. He completed his higher studies at the Faculty of Theology of Buenos Aires. He was ordained a priest for Venado Tuerto on December 26, 1980, in Venado Tuerto. In that diocese he served as assistant parish priest of the cathedral of the Inmaculada Concepción (1980-1981); parish priest of San Cayetano (1981-1987); and formator and professor of philosophy and pedagogy at the major seminary of La Plata (1987-1989). Appointed vicar general of Venado Tuerto in 1990, he returned to that city and was also appointed parish priest of the cathedral of the Inmaculada Concepción, an office he held from 1993 to 2006. At Venado Tuerto he was also professor of philosophy at the Santa Rosa Institute, professor of theology and social policy at the Catholic Institute of Higher Education, a professor of the Venado Tuerto branch of the Universidad del Salvador, and adviser to the diocesan board of Catholic education, to the Group of Catholic Professionals and to the Jornadas de Vida Cristiana and Cursillos de Cristiandad movements. On February 21, 2006, he was appointed Bishop of Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto. He received episcopal ordination on May 19, 2006, at Venado Tuerto, with Paulino Reale Chirina as principal consecrator and Gustavo Arturo Help and Guillermo José Garlatti as co-consecrators, and he was installed on May 28, 2006. On July 4, 2014, he was appointed Archbishop of Rosario, and he was installed on August 24, 2014. Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference he has served as a member of the permanent commission, representing the bishops of the Central Region, and of the commission for social ministry.
