Canvas Mode
Canvas Mode is a Pro feature that turns a conversation into a collaborative document editor. Instead of getting answers as chat messages, the AI produces a structured document you can refine with quick toolbar actions — adjust the reading level, change the length, or request inline suggestions.
Canvas Mode requires Pro, Organization, or Large Organization. Selecting it on Free sends you to the Plan page.
Turn on Canvas
- Click the + button in the chat box.
- Turn on Canvas — Request editable document in separate window.
- Send a prompt like "Draft a homily on Matthew 5," "Outline a Bible study on hope," or "Write a short explanation of the Hypostatic Union for teens."

A canvas panel opens on the right with your document; the chat on the left is where you ask for changes.
Canvas toolbar
While your cursor is in the document, use the Canvas toolbar to quickly refine the draft:
- Adjust reading level — rewrites the section for a different audience (e.g. high school, scholarly).
- Adjust length — make the section shorter or longer.
- Request suggestions — get inline suggestions for what to improve.
For broader edits like "polish the tone" or "tighten the wording," send the request in the chat — the AI applies it to the canvas.

Saving and exporting
- Your canvas is saved automatically in the chat.
- Click Download PDF in the canvas header to export.
Versions
Every major revision is saved. See Canvas revisions and restoring versions for how to compare and roll back.
When Canvas is the right tool
- Drafting homilies, letters, or study guides.
- Writing school or catechesis materials.
- Outlining a talk.
For short Q&A, just keep Canvas turned off — a normal chat is faster.
