Bishop Isabelo Caiban Abarquez, Bishop of Calbayog, Philippines, was born on 8 July 1956 in Panlaan, Dumanjug, Cebu. After elementary and secondary studies, he studied philosophy and theology at San Carlos Seminary in Cebu. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Cebu on 23 June 1987. He then held the following offices: member of the Archdiocesan Mission Team in Cebu from 1987 to 1988; professor at Pope John XXIII Minor Seminary from 1988 to 1991; professor at San Carlos College Seminary in Cebu from 1991 to 1997; spiritual director of the Padre Pio Contemplative Community in Cebu from 1998; and rector of San Carlos College Seminary in Cebu from 1998. The official CBCP Online profile lists his episcopate as 18 February 2003.
