Bishop of Rancagua
Guillermo Patricio Vera Soto was born in Isla de Maipo, in the Diocese of Melipilla, on June 7, 1958. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical Major Seminary of Santiago de Chile. Ordained a priest on June 12, 1982, for the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile, he was subsequently incardinated into the neighboring Diocese of Melipilla when it was established in 1991. He served as parish priest in Talagante, Curacaví, and at the Cathedral of Melipilla. On April 10, 2003, he was appointed Bishop-Prelate of Calama. He received episcopal ordination on May 31, 2003. On February 20, 2010, the Prelature of Calama was elevated to the rank of a diocese under the name San Juan Bautista de Calama, and H.E. Msgr.
