Bishop of San Jacinto
He was born on August 26, 1964, in Valparaíso, Chile. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. He pursued philosophy studies at the Valparaíso Seminary and later arrived in Cuenca to study Law. Subsequently, he entered the San León Magno Seminary in the same city, where he studied Theology. He was ordained a priest on October 26, 1991. He served as parish priest of San Pablo de Zhagly (1992–1998), Santiago de Gualaceo (1998–2008), San Roque in Cuenca (2009–2017), and San Luis Gonzaga in Cuenca (2017–2018). He has served as Rector of the San León Magno Seminary in Cuenca from 2018 to the present. He has been a member of the Archdiocesan Sunday Bulletin Commission, the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council, and the Governing Council for Archdiocesan Assets. On June 3, 2022, Pope Francis appointed him Titular Bishop of Glavinitza and Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil; he took office on August 6, 2022. On January 31, 2025, Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Escobar—previously Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil—as the new Bishop of San Jacinto. He took office on March 29 of that same year during a moving solemn Eucharist presided over by Msgr. Andrés Carrascosa Coso, attended by various bishops, priests, religious, and members of the laity.
