Bishop Felix Gmür

Felix Gmür was born in Lucerne (Diocese of Basel) on June 7, 1966. From 1986 to 1990, he pursued philosophical studies at the School of Philosophy in Munich and at the "Centre Sèvres" in Paris, obtaining a Licentiate in Philosophy. From 1990 to 1994, he undertook theological studies at the universities of Fribourg and Munich, completing them with a Licentiate in Theology. From 1994 onwards, he continued his studies in philosophy and exegesis in Munich, while also attending courses in art history. In 1997, he obtained a doctorate in philosophy. During his studies in Munich, he was a resident of the city's "Herzogliches Georgianum" Major Seminary. From 1997 to 1999, he completed his pastoral training in the Diocese of Basel, working first as a pastoral assistant and later as a deacon at St. Anthony's Parish in Basel. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1999, in Lucerne for the Diocese of Basel. From 1999 to 2001, he served as parochial vicar and subsequently as administrator of the aforementioned St. Anthony's Parish in Basel. From 2001 to 2004, he studied Biblical Sciences at the Pontifical Gregorian University while residing at the Pontifical Teutonic Institute of Santa Maria dell’Anima. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Vice-Rector of the Basel Major Seminary in Lucerne, while also assisting in the parishes of Menzingen and Neuheim. Since 2006, he has served as General Secretary of the Swiss Bishops' Conference.
