Auxiliary Bishop of Addis Abeba (Ethiopian)
His Excellency Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie was born in Harar on 22 September 1969. He entered the postulancy of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus in 1986, and professed his perpetual vows in that Congregation on 1 November 1994. He was ordained a priest on 26 August 1995 in Addis Ababa. He studied Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and earned a Licentiate in Islamic Studies from the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Rome. He attended a formation course at the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome. He has had the following assignments: Assistant Parish Priest and then Pastor of the Khartoum Masalma Omdurman Parish in Sudan (1997-2000); Assistant Parish Priest and Director of the Combonian School in Haro Wato, in Ethiopia (2001); Provincial Counsellor of the Comboni Missionaries in Ethiopia (2002-2004); Provincial of the Comboni Missionaries in Ethiopia and President of the Conference of Major Religious Superiors of Ethiopia (2005); General Counsellor of the Comboni Missionaries (2009-2015); Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries (2015-2024).
