Bishop Giuseppe Russo

Giuseppe Russo was born on June 12, 1966, in San Giorgio Jonico, in the province and Archdiocese of Taranto. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary, obtaining a Baccalaureate in Theology. He is a member of the Institute of the Servants of Suffering (*Servi della Sofferenza*). He was ordained a priest on June 24, 1995, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Taranto. He held the following positions and pursued further studies: Parochial Vicar at the SS. Angeli Custodi parish in Taranto (1995–2000); Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (1996); Ecclesiastical Advisor to the Catholic Jurists (Taranto section) (1998–2005); Defender of the Bond and Promoter of Justice at the Diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal (1999–2005); Member of the Commission for Liturgy and Sacred Art (2000–2005); Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pisa (2005); Head of the National Service for Buildings of Worship within the General Secretariat of the Italian Episcopal Conference (2005–2015); Lecturer for the Master’s program in Architecture and Arts for the Liturgy at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Saint Anselm (2010–2015); Jury member for the European and International Prizes for Sacred Architecture established by the Frate Sole Foundation (2009–2015); Member of the Scientific Committee for the Observatory on Sacred Architecture at the *Dies Domini* Study Center in Bologna (2011–2015); Honorary Architect title (2014); Under-Secretary of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (2016–2022). Since 2022, he has served as Parish Priest of San Francesco d’Assisi in Martina Franca.
