Archbishop Raphy Manjaly

Archbishop Raphy Manjaly, Archbishop of Agra, was born on February 7, 1958, at Vendore, in the Archeparchy of Trichur (Syro-Malabar). He received his first education at St. Xavier's School in Vendore and at the Thiagaraja High School in Trichur, completing the tenth class under the Kerala board of education, and he then attended St. Lawrence minor seminary in Agra while completing the intermediate course under the Uttar Pradesh board. He received his priestly formation at St. Joseph's Regional Seminary in Allahabad and took his degree and postgraduate studies at Agra University. He was ordained a priest on May 11, 1983, incardinated first in the Eparchy of Trichur of the Syro-Malabar rite and afterwards in the Archdiocese of Agra. He was in charge of the St. Francis Xavier mission at Etawah from 1983 to 1984 and rector of St. Lawrence minor seminary in Agra from 1984 to 1990, and from 1990 to 1996 he studied for a doctorate in spiritual theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He was principal of St. Dominic's Secondary School at Mathura from 1996 to 1997, a professor at St. Joseph's Seminary in Allahabad from 1997 to 1998 and its vice-rector from 1998 to 1999, and rector of St. Joseph's Regional Seminary from 1999 to 2005, and from July 2005 he was parish priest of the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Agra and director of the pastoral centre. On February 24, 2007, he was appointed Bishop of Varanasi. He received episcopal ordination on April 30, 2007, at Varanasi, with Pedro López Quintana as principal consecrator and Oswald Gracias and Patrick Paul D'Souza as co-consecrators. On October 17, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Allahabad, and he was installed on December 3, 2013. On November 12, 2020, he was appointed Archbishop of Agra, and he was installed on January 7, 2021.
