Archbishop Alessandro Damiano

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Alessandro Damiano—a priest of the Diocese of Trapani who has served as its Vicar General—as Coadjutor Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agrigento. Msgr. Damiano was born on July 13, 1960, in Trapani (in the province and diocese of the same name). He obtained a diploma in commercial studies in 1979. He completed his priestly formation at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary and earned a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy in 1995, followed by a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome in 2002. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Trapani on April 24, 1987. He served as parish priest of the Maria Santissima parish in Rilievo (Trapani) from 1989 to 1998; since 1995, he has been a permanent lecturer in Moral Theology (fundamental and special) at the Sant’Alberto degli Abati Institute of Religious Sciences in Trapani. He served as Chancellor of the Curia and Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Office from 1998 to 2003; as Defender of the Bond at the Diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal from 2000 to 2005; and as Ecclesiastical Assistant for the Trapani 5 Scout Group from 2000 to 2003. From 2005 to 2009, he was Judicial Vicar of the Diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal and parish priest of the Cristo Re parish in Erice–Casa Santa. From 2009 to 2012, he served as parish priest of the Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù e Maria Santissima Ausiliatrice parish in Trapani. Since 2013, he has served as a judge at the Sicilian Ecclesiastical Tribunal, and since 2014, as Vicar General.
