Bishop of Albacete
Ángel Román Idígoras was born in Madrid on June 30, 1968. He entered the city's conciliar seminary as a minor seminarian in 1984. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Theology from the "San Dámaso" Center for Theological Studies in Madrid (1992). He was ordained a priest on April 24, 1994. He obtained a degree in Education from the Complutense University of Madrid (1989) and a degree in Sociology from the León XIII Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca (2003). He carried out his priestly ministry in the Diocese of Alcalá de Henares, serving as parochial vicar at the San Diego de Alcalá parish (1994–2002) and as a priest assigned to the Nuestra Señora del Templo parish in San Fernando de Henares (2002–2005). He also served as archpriest of Torrejón de Ardoz (2006–2014) and was a member of the College of Consultors (2007–2022). Within the same diocese, he held the positions of Director of the Sociology Office, Deputy Secretary for the Pastoral Visit, Director of the Diocesan Secretariat for Catholic Action Movements, and Deputy Synodal Coordinator for the diocesan phase of the Synod on Synodality. He served as parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Torrejón de Ardoz (2005–2025), chaplain at the Madrid VII (Estremera) penitentiary center, member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council (2021–2025), and territorial vicar of the Central Vicariate (also known as the San Félix de Alcalá Vicariate) (2024–2025). Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Albacete on March 6, 2025. At the time of his appointment, he was the territorial vicar of the Central (San Félix) Vicariate of the Diocese of Alcalá de Henares. His episcopal ordination took place on May 3 at the Cathedral of Albacete.
