Bishop of Allahabad
Bishop Louis Mascarenhas, Bishop of Allahabad, was born on September 29, 1959, at Kelmbet, in Karnataka and in the Diocese of Udupi, and his home parish is Don Bosco Church at Kelmbet. He was educated at the Little Flower higher primary school at Belman and at Vidya Vardaka Junior College at Mundkur, and he took his degree at the University of Allahabad from 1981 to 1984, with postgraduate studies at Ram Manohar Lohia University in Faizabad, a bachelor of education from Annamalai University and a postgraduate diploma in rural development from the Indira Gandhi National Open University. He entered St. Paul's Seminary in Lucknow in 1978, studied philosophy at St. Joseph's Regional Seminary in Allahabad from 1981 to 1984, spent a year of regency at St. Peter's Church in Raebareli and St. Xavier's Church in Robertsganj, and studied theology at St. Joseph's Regional Seminary from 1985 to 1989. He was ordained a priest on April 4, 1989, in St. Joseph's Cathedral at Allahabad by Isidore Fernandes. He served as assistant pastor of St. Joseph the Worker's Church at Chakeri in Kanpur from 1989 to 1992 and of St. Peter's Church at Akbarpur from 1992 to 1995, with charge of the visiting station of Jaffarganj, and as the first resident parish priest of St. Joseph's Church at Jaffarganj from 1995 to 1997. He was director of the diocesan development and welfare society from 1997 to 2005, principal of St. Joseph's College in Allahabad from 2005 to 2014, parish priest of St. Peter's Church and principal of St. Peter's Inter College from 2014 to 2020, and director of the Nazareth Hospital in Prayagraj from 2020 to 2023. He was also a member of the diocesan finance committee from 2003 to 2021, a member of the college of consultors from 2006, vicar general of the diocese from 2014 to 2021, and diocesan administrator from 2021 to 2023. On June 17, 2023, he was appointed Bishop of Allahabad. He received episcopal ordination on August 24, 2023, in the grounds of St. Joseph's College at Prayagraj, with Oswald Gracias as principal consecrator and Raphy Manjaly and Gerald John Mathias as co-consecrators. His episcopal motto is Every action of mine be something beautiful for God.
