José Hamilton de Castro was born on April 20, 1961, in Monte Santo de Minas, in the Diocese of Guaxupé, in the state of Minas Gerais. After entering the Maria Imaculada Archdiocesan Seminary in Brodowski (São Paulo), he completed his philosophy studies at the Claretian University Center in Batatais (1990–1992) and his theology studies at the Study Center of the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto (CEARP) (1993–1996). He was ordained a priest on May 4, 1997, and incardinated into the Diocese of Guaxupé. He has held the following positions: Vice-Rector (1997) and later Rector (1999–2000; 2013–2015) of the São José Seminary in Guaxupé (Minas Gerais); Rector of the Santo Antônio House of Priestly Formation in Pouso Alegre (Minas Gerais) and formator for theology students (1998; 2022); Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral (1999–2000); Parish Priest of São José in Machado (Minas Gerais) (2001–2007; 2019–2021) and of São Sebastião in São Sebastião do Paraíso (Minas Gerais) (2007–2013); Vice-Rector of the Santo Antônio House of Priestly Formation in Pouso Alegre (Minas Gerais) and formator for philosophy students (2016–2018); and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. Currently, he is the Rector of the Theology Seminary and Parochial Vicar of São Sebastião in Alfenas (Minas Gerais). He was ordained a deacon on September 13, 1996, at the Imaculada Conceição parish in Divisa Nove (Minas Gerais), and ordained a priest on May 4, 1997, in the city of Monte Santo de Minas (Minas Gerais). In 1997, he assumed the role of vice-rector of the São José Seminary in Guaxupé. In 1998, he assumed the rectorship of the *Nossa Senhora das Dores* Priestly Formation House in Pouso Alegre (MG), serving as a theology formator. From 1990 to 2000, he served as rector of the diocesan seminary in Guaxupé (MG) while also acting as vicar of the cathedral parish. From 2001 to October 2007, he was the parish priest of São José parish in Machado (MG) and pastoral coordinator for the Alfenas (MG) sector. From October 2007 to January 2013, he served as parish priest of São Sebastião parish in São Sebastião do Paraíso (MG), also taking on the role of pastoral coordinator for the Paraíso sector. From February 2013 to 2015, he resumed the rectorship of the São José diocesan seminary in Guaxupé. From January 2016 to December 2018, he served as vice-rector of the Santo Antônio Priestly Formation House in Pouso Alegre, as a theology formator, and as parochial vicar of São Sebastião parish in Alfenas. He also served on the Council of Priests and the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Guaxupé.
