Archbishop Angelo Spina

The Pope has appointed H.E. Msgr. Angelo Spina as Metropolitan Archbishop of Ancona-Osimo, transferring him from the Diocese of Sulmona-Valva. Msgr. Spina was born in Colledanchise (in the Archdiocese of Campobasso-Boiano, province of Campobasso) on November 13, 1954. He attended the Regional Seminary of Benevento and was ordained a priest on January 5, 1980, for the Archdiocese of Campobasso-Boiano. He has held the following positions: Parish Priest of Campochiaro and San Paolo Matese (1980–1999); Religion teacher at the scientific high school in Boiano (since 1980); and coordinator for the training of religion teachers in Molise’s elementary schools (since 1985). From 1996 to 2000, he served as Episcopal Vicar for the Great Jubilee of 2000 and Vicar for Pastoral Care; he became Parish Priest of the Boiano Cathedral in 1999; President of the "Friends of the 'La Famiglia' Counseling Center" Association in 1999; head of the "Centro Famiglie Incontro" in 2000; Episcopal Vicar for the Diocesan Mission in 2003; and Episcopal Vicar for the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows (Addolorata) in Castelpetroso from 2004 to 2007. Elected Bishop of Sulmona-Valva on April 3, 2007, he received episcopal consecration on June 9 of that same year. Within the Regional Episcopal Conference, he serves as the Delegate for the Laity, Culture, and Social Communications.
