Bishop of Apatzingán
Bishop Cristóbal Ascencio García, Bishop of Apatzingán, was born on March 25, 1955, in El Josefino de Allende, in the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos. He completed his ecclesiastical studies at the seminary of San Juan de los Lagos and obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a deacon on May 5, 1984, and a priest for San Juan de los Lagos on May 4, 1985. He served as parochial vicar in the parishes of San Nicolás de Tolentino at Mexticacán and San Juan Bautista at San Juan de los Lagos; formator at the minor seminary; parish priest of Espíritu Santo; prefect and then rector of the major seminary; and judge of the diocesan ecclesiastical tribunal and of the tribunal of second instance. He also served as parish priest of San Francisco de Asís at Tepatitlán de Morelos and a member of the college of consultors. On November 17, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Apatzingán. He received episcopal ordination on February 12, 2015, at Apatzingán, with Christophe Louis Yves Georges Pierre as principal consecrator and Felipe Salazar Villagrana and Enrique Sánchez Martínez as co-consecrators.
