Bishop of Araçatuba
Sérgio Krzywy was born on June 30, 1952, in Palmeira (Archdiocese of Curitiba, State of Paraná) into a family of Slavic origin. He completed his preparatory studies at the seminary of the Stigmatine Fathers. During his mandatory military service, he joined the Brazilian Army and served as a personal guard to the President of the Republic in Brasília, where he also pursued studies in psychology. In 1977, he left military life to return to the seminary and undertook theological studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. As a student at the Pontifical Pio Brasileiro College in Rome, he attended courses in Theological Anthropology at the "Teresianum" Pontifical Institute of Spirituality, obtaining a licentiate degree. He was ordained a priest on February 28, 1983, and incardinated into the Diocese of Assis. Since then, he has served in the following roles: parochial vicar in Paraguaçu Paulista; rector of the minor seminary; parish administrator of the "Nossa Senhora da Medalha Milagrosa" community in Assis; and spiritual director of both the minor and major seminaries. He is currently the spiritual director of the "Rainha dos Apóstolos" Theological Institute and parochial vicar of the Cathedral of Assis.
