Archbishop of Arusha
Isaac Amani Massawe was born on June 10, 1951, in Mango, in the Diocese of Moshi. He completed his primary education in Mango (1959–1965) and his secondary education at St. James Diocesan Minor Seminary (1966–1969). He subsequently entered the Ntungamo Major Seminary (Diocese of Bukoba) to study philosophy (1970–1972) and the Kipalapala Major Seminary (Archdiocese of Tabora) to study theology (1972–1975). He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1975, and incardinated into the Diocese of Moshi. Following his ordination, he served in the following roles: 1975–1976: Parochial Vicar in Narumu; 1976–1979: Parochial Vicar in Moshi; 1980–1986: Teacher and Vice-Rector at St. James Minor Seminary (Diocese of Moshi); 1986–1989: Studies in Education and Pastoral Counseling at Walsh University (Ohio, USA); 1990–2003: Chaplain and formator for the Diocesan Congregation of the Brothers of the Redeemer; 1999–2004: Episcopal Vicar for Religious and, from July 2003, Parish Priest of Christ the King Cathedral in Moshi.
