Bishop of Aversa
Bishop Angelo Spinillo, Bishop of Aversa, was born on May 1, 1951, in Sant'Arsenio, in the province of Salerno and the Diocese of Teggiano-Policastro. He completed his secondary studies at Salesian schools, where he also attended the first year of the two-year philosophy course, before moving to the archiepiscopal seminary of Naples as a seminarian of the Diocese of Teggiano-Policastro. He attended the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, San Tommaso section, where he obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology. He was ordained a priest for Diano-Teggiano on July 15, 1978, in the parish church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Sant'Arsenio, in his diocese of origin. He served as vicar coadjutor of Sant'Anna in Sala Consilina from October 28, 1978; vicar econome of Santissima Annunziata in the same town from November 1, 1982; and parish priest of Santo Stefano in Sala Consilina and vicar econome of San Giacomo Apostolo in Monte San Giacomo from September 1, 1983. He was diocesan assistant of Catholic Action for children (1982-1989) and assistant for Catholic Action youth (1989-1995), and also taught religion. He served as parish priest of Santa Maria Maggiore in Atena Lucana from September 14, 1991, and of San Michele Arcangelo in Atena Lucana Scalo from March 18, 1995; as unitary assistant of diocesan Catholic Action from 1995; as regional assistant of the Catholic Action youth sector from 1988; and as director of the diocesan office for cultural heritage and professor of theology at the diocesan Institute of Religious Sciences. On March 18, 2000, he was appointed Bishop of Teggiano-Policastro. He received episcopal ordination on May 13, 2000, with Michele Giordano as principal consecrator and Gerardo Pierro and Francesco Pio Tamburrino as co-consecrators. On January 15, 2011, he was appointed Bishop of Aversa, and he was installed on February 19, 2011.
