Bishop of Bareilly
Ignatius D’Souza was born on August 4, 1964, in Basrikatte, in the Diocese of Chikmagalur. He attended school in his native village before moving to the Minor Seminary in Lucknow and continuing his studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph’s Regional Seminary in Allahabad. He holds a Master of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Education degree, a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome, and a Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Urbaniana University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on April 7, 1991, at the Cathedral in Lucknow, and is incardinated in the same diocese. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1991–1993: Assistant Parish Priest at the Cathedral in Lucknow; 1993: Vice Principal of the Cathedral School in Lucknow; 1994: Vice Rector of St. Paul’s Minor Seminary in Lucknow; 1994–1998: Studies in Rome for the Licentiate; 1998–2000: Assistant at St. Anthony’s Parish and School in Barabanki; 2000–2004: Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Lucknow; 2004–2006: Studies in Rome for the Doctorate; since 2006: Assistant Parish Priest at the Cathedral in Lucknow, Member of the College of Consultors, and Professor at St. Joseph’s Regional Seminary in Allahabad; since 2008: Vicar General of Lucknow; since 2009: Parish Priest of the Cathedral in Lucknow, Director of Ecumenism and Inter-religious Dialogue, Member of the Diocesan Finance Committee, Officer in charge of Properties and Buildings, Director of the Cathedral School, Vice President of the Catholic Diocese of Lucknow, and Acting President of the Lucknow Christian Burial Board.
